Challenge - Day 3 - GOING BEYOND YOUR LIMITS

GOING BEYOND YOUR LIMITS

As we usually do on Thursdays, we were out running this morning. However, due to being sick for a few weeks and this global pandemic, we have not been out running for months. And we have not really got back to our normal strengths and condition. Therefore, the run this morning was a challenge, both for me and my wife, Lotta.

I just didn’t have the strength and oxygen uptake that I wish that I had. Off course, the result was that I wanted to stop running and just walk instead. But not being able to run the course that I normally do would be a personal defeat, so I pushed myself to keep running, even though my lungs only wanted me to stop running.

Once again, I pushed myself outside my comfort zone, during this morning run. I was pushing myself further by taking one step after another.

Basically, it is the same thing in life – you can choose to listen to that inner voice that tells you stop, to give up and quit. Or…. You can choose to push yourself just a little more, even though all you want to do is to give up.

Whenever you feel like giving up, consider what might happen if you pushed yourself just a little further. Set a goal to go 10 steps further, or 10 activates mor, or 10 minutes more. Then, when you have reached those 10 steps, set a new goal of 5 more steps. Then, set a new goal of another 3 steps, 2 steps, and finally 1 step further.

By pushing yourself outside your comfort zone, you have now taken 21 steps, activities or minutes, towards your goal, whatever it may be. 21 more steps, from the point from where you just wanted to give up.
Now, turn around and look back on those 21 steps. Reflect upon the additional results you have achieved. That is a result that you wouldn’t have achieved if you hadn’t pushed yourself beyond the borders of your comfort.

And that is how you create extraordinary results – pushing yourself outside your comfort zone and going beyond your limits.
